In Memory Of Bill Tanner
Bill's Story
William “Bill” Anthony Tanner, a beloved member of CHD passed away at home with his family around him on Tuesday, February 24th. Bill was first employed at CHD in late 1987 and worked in various capacities over the years including Job Developer and later Program Manager with the Gain Program, Director of Temporary Employment Services, ASET Manager and most recently our Job Developer in Farm Worker Services.
Bill received the Jayne Ruiz Leadership Award in 1999 and later was named the Employee of the Year. Bill’s role in job placement both with CHD and on his own touched many employers and employees throughout the years.
Bill was born in New Orleans and came west to major in mathematics at the Tacoma Community College where he attained his AA in Social Science and Business Administration. After his studies in Washington, Bill spent three years as a welder for the U.S. Navy. Bill gave a year of his services to the Bay Area Urban League, Threshold, Juvenile Delinquency Prevention Program. He also served as a Parolees Counselor, Job Developer, and House Manager for the Seventh Step Foundation Adult and Youth Authority before coming to CHD.
Bill was an active member of the community including involvement in organizations over the years such as the NAACP of Sonoma County, Sonoma County Gang Task Force, 100 Black Men, Interviewer and Panel Member for the City of Santa Rosa Firefighters, El Molino High School Football program and the City of Santa Rosa Summer Youth Employment program as well as others.
Bill is survived by his wife Jackie and six sons William, Michael, Anthony, David, Jamerson and Daniel.
